If it’s about time for you to upgrade your child’s car seat, then you’re in luck! It’s about time for Target’s bi-annual trade-in event!
Before I go over all the details, make sure that you don’t qualify for a free car seat. There are many programs that will provide a free car seat to families that cannot afford them. Some are eligible through Medicaid. If you’re eligible for WIC, you may also be able to get one through that program. With both of these, they may require a short safety course. Additionally, Buckle Up for Life has donated over 60,000 car seats to low-income families. Finally, there are many state programs that offer free or reduced price car seats.
If you do not qualify for a free car seat, then taking advantage of Target’s trade-in program is a great alternative.
When is the trade-in event?
Target’s trade-in event will run from September 12, 2021 – September 25, 2021.
How does it work?
- Drop off – bring in your old car seat or car seat base and drop it in the designated bin outside your local Target.
- Open your Target app to scan the code located on the bin.
- Open your wallet in the Target app to find your 20% off coupon.
- Click the red “+” to save the coupon and place your order online, or scan the barcode at the checkout register.
Make sure you have the Target app downloaded onto your smart phone. The coupon can be used on a new car seat, stroller or select baby gear.
What type of car seats are accepted?
During the event, Target will accept (and recycle) a wide variety of car seats: infant car seats, convertible car seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats, and even damaged or expired car seats.
What does Target do with the car seats?
Target partners with Waste Management to recycle materials from the old car seats. I love this! You can be at peace knowing your old seat is being recycled while also getting a discount on a new one!
Not quite ready to trade-in yet?
No worries! Target runs this event twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall. Plan ahead so you can take advantage of the next one!
Additionally, large retail stores often have baby clearance sales over the summer months (July-August). You may be able to score a great deal that way too.
